Westmeath Féile na nÓg Champions 2010 & 2011

Athlone GAA Westmeath U14 Féile na nÓg Champions 2011

Congratulations to Athlone GAA Under 14s who competed in the All Ireland Finals in Cork. The boys were outstanding to a man, going through their group undefeated with games against Canovee, Courcey Rovers, Donoughmore (all Cork) and Micheal McCraiths of Tramore (Waterford).

Unfortunately luck was not on their side when they lost out to St Marys of Sligo after extra time in a nail-biting semi-final in Carrigtwohill. Great credit goes to Davy Allen, Jim Rigney and Ned O’Neill for their preparation of the team and all concerned have reason to be very proud of themselves as the manner in which the lads accepted victory and defeat makes them a credit to their families and their club.

For the record, the results were: Donoughmore 0-02 Athlone 4-08, Michael MacCraiths 1-03 Athlone 1-07, Canovee 0-11 Athlone 4-04, Courcey Rovers 0-10 Athlone 4-04, Semi final St Marys 4-08 Athlone 4-03(aet).

We wish a speedy recovery to our full forward Patrick Munnelly who was injured in the closing stages of our first match against Donoughmore. It was a particularly unfortunate injury as he had just put in an outstanding performance.

We would like to thank Donoghmore GAA Club and Canovee GAA Club in Cork for their outstanding hospitality. The lads had a great time and many friends were made and invitations extended.
